Dear Student:

Salem Community College enters the 2009-2010 academic year with
much optimism based on continued success. Several examples are:

Climbing enrollment, including a record number of full-time
students;

New academic programs, such as
Nuclear Energy Technology (NET)
and Sustainable Energy Technology
(SET), made possible through
partnerships with PSEG Nuclear and
Energy Freedom Pioneers, respectively,
and a $1.7 million federal grant;

Accreditation of our Practical Nursing
and Associate Degree in Nursing
programs from the National League
for Nursing Accrediting Commission;

Outstanding instructional areas, including state-of-the-art science
labs and the Paul J. Stankard Studio & Lab in the Samuel H.
Jones Glass Education Center; and

Expanded student activities, enabling students to enrich their
collegiate experience outside the classroom.

As I noted previously, the College -- under the leadership of Provost
Joan Baillie -- has developed several new degree and certificate
programs. Should you be exploring career options, use this Catalog
to research new offerings in emergency management, NET, SET, case
management, medical transcription, personal trainer and pharmacy
technician.

Our faculty and staff take to heart the opportunity to help you achieve
your educational goals. As our mission statement describes, Salem
Community College believes that `your success is our success.'
This phrase was reaffirmed during the recently completed strategic
planning process. It is as true today as when created in 1999.

In closing, I encourage you to continue your education. Studies show
the many economic advantages for those who earn an associate
degree. You will be qualified for higher-paying positions that will
benefit you and your family. Your associate degree also means that
the community will benefit from an educated, well-trained workforce.
