Certificate Program
Program Information
The Medical Coding certificate program prepares
students for immediate placement in the healthcare
field. Students learn to analyze medical records and
assign the appropriate medical codes using healthcare
coding and classification schedules. Comprehensive
training is provided in inpatient and outpatient coding
as well as the necessary background courses in medical
terminology, human biology and basic pharmacology.
Upon completing the program, students will be qualified
to sit for the Certified Coding Associate (CCA) national
certification exam.
Upon successfully completing this program, students
should be able to:

successfully complete a standard medical billing
form using ICD-9 and CPT coding manuals,
w
correctly interpret medical notes and procedures,
and
w
demonstrate the knowledge necessary to take the
Certified Coding Associate national certification
exam.
Transfer of Credits
Although this program is not designed for transfer, some
credits may be transferable to an associate or bachelor's
degree program. Please direct specific questions to a
Student Affairs advisor.
*Students with previous computer science
experience may substitute another computer
science course for CSC 115.
