Program Information
The Social/Community Service option explores the
application of history, sociology and psychology to the
field of social and community services, and introduces
liberal arts studies. Students are exposed to a diversity
of thought and people. With course work that examines
a variety of academic disciplines and modes of inquiry,
students have opportunities to increase self-awareness,
interpersonal skills, creativity and civic awareness.
Students are expected to recognize and analyze ethical
dilemmas, and also develop frames of reference
necessary for critical thinking and problem solving.
Upon successfully completing this program, students
should be able to:
w
identify five major areas of provision of human
services,
w
identify information resources for identifying
providers in a specific area,
w
demonstrate basic skills in information gathering
specific to social services, and
w
determine areas of individual interest and areas in
which individual is not willing to work.
