Programs of Study
Associate in Fine Arts
Program Information
Industrial Design students gain technical skills in
drawing, form giving, model making, problem solving,
and computer-aided design, but the real emphasis of the
program is on creativity, curiosity, innovation, and belief
in one's own visual intelligence. The curriculum -- in
which drawing, presentation and model making play an
integral part -- allows students to see their designs
develop from concept to finished product, under
technical and creative guidance.
Upon successfully completing this program, students
should be able to demonstrate:
w
the ability to work collaboratively with
industrial designers;
w
critical-thinking and problem-solving abilities;
w
an understanding of basic design techniques,
from conceptualization to the manufacture of
a product;
w
an understanding of how to apply design
techniques, from conceptualization to
fabrication of the product and be able to then
integrate the ergonomic analysis, the cultural
elements and human factor into a creative piece
of work; and
w
an ability to facilitate design activities, at a level
that will incorporate aesthetic, ethical, social,
environmental, and sustainability values in
formulating industrial design approaches
and judgments.
